About

Darts is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world and will be in the Olympics soon. It is played on 5 Continents and has recognised governing bodies in over 60 contries and run by the BDO/WDF British Darts Organisation/ World Darts Federation. The Irish National Darts Organisation (I.N.D.O.) and the Northern Ireland Darts Organisation (N.I.D.O.) govern the Sport on the Island of Ireland. The Sport of Darts at Third-level is governed worldwide by the University Darts Corporation of which the University Darts Association Ireland is a member. NUIG Darts Club is affiliated and competes bi-annually or annually in the U.D.A.I. Darts Intervarsities in the Singles & Pairs held usually in Semester 1 of the term in November and the Masters and Teams held usually in Semester 2 of the term in March. Darts on TV is generally governed by the Professional Darts Corporation and has unprecedented amounts of Prize money on offer. The Oldest Tournament in the World is the Winmau World Masters Played since 1974 - Present and the Oldest World Darts Championships is played since the 1978 - Present also. The PDC World Championships played since 1994-Present.

History

Est. 2005 by Stiofan "DANGER" de Lundres O Dalaigh. 1st Clubs' Day 2005 achieved over 30 sign-up's. Formulated by then Captain James "Slim Jim" Copley in Athletic Union meeting in April 2006. Achieved "Associated Club Status", and then became receipt of Club Funding and a "Fully-Fledged Club", in September 2007. As from Clubs' Day in January 2009, NUIG darts Club has over 90 sign-up's trebling it's initial membership and trains twice a week. From September 2010 many of the Clubs' players participate in the Galway City Darts League on a Tuesday night & train also on a Monday evening from 6 p.m. From Sept. 2011 the Darts Clubs of both N.U.I.G. & G.M.I.T. will form a Team to compete in Galway City Darts League Division 1 and will be known as the "UNIT".

1. 1st Recognised Darts Club by the NUI in 2006.
2. 1st University to host Inagural U.D.A.I. Team Intervarsities in April 2007.
3. 1st University to host Inagural U.D.A.I. Singles Intervarsities in December 2007.

5. Hosted U.D.A.I. Singles and Pairs Intervarsities in November 2008.
