NUI Galway has a dedicated team who do their best to ensure students have access to the best sporting equipment, facilities and programmes.

The Team consists of Sport Unit Staff, Sports Development Officers, Sport Science Services, the Student Union (SU) Clubs Captain, and newly formed Student Sports Clubs Advisory Group (SSCAG). 


Structure of Sport at NUI Galway

The administration structure of sport is currently being reviewed. Part of this review was the creation of the SSCAG with the assistance of the SU Clubs Captain in 2021/22. 

This student body's main function is to provide sports clubs the opportunity to voice their views and provide input into some administrative aspects relating to Sport at the University. 


Role / Function of the Sport Unit and SSCAG


Sport Unit

Development of Sports Participation both at recreational and competitive levels.

Ongoing development and provision of sports facilities.

Communication role both within the University and externally.

Administration and funding of the sports scholarship programme.

SSCAG

Attend and provide input during Clubs Forums.

Provide input and assistance in organizing the Sports Ball.

Provide assistance in Sports Awards.

Provide input into University Sport Strategy.

Provide input into Sports Clubs Finance and Budgets.

Assist with resolving NUI Galway Sports Club Disputes.

Provide input into any Sports Projects.

Review applications for New Clubs.

Provide assistance in activities relating to the Presidents Cup.

Provide assistance in running various Sports Events.
